Hi. I’m Larry. I grew up in a family that owned a fourth generation auction company. We worked in a specialized niche of rare antique carriages and horse related finds… so uniquely specialized that we often traveled the country because of our expertise. I was in tow from a very young age… viewing the country at 55mph out the windshield of a pickup truck towing a precariously loaded trailer…the miles rolling beneath our wheels. From east coast to west coast, southern routes and northern routes. It was always business and never vacation, but my eyes have seen a lot over those journeys.
My first paychecks were spent on my first Nikon 35mm camera (still have it.) Many cameras followed…polaroids, discs, 110mm, Holgas and countless other 35mm and digital cameras. All documenting the miles spanned and the sights seen. My eyes and lens are always drawn toward landscapes and street photography. Western mountains and deserts. California surf culture. Faces of those with stories to be told. Everyday beauty and striking moments in time.
As I got older, I met a girl, got married and made a family. I tried to show our family as much of the world as possible and capture those memories in photos. If i’m not taking photos, I’m wrenching on old Volkswagens, taking cruises in said VWs with said wife. If it’s a REALLY good day, we are off on a camping/adventure in our 1989 Vanagon.
I love weaving storytelling into my photography. I love creating images that cause people to aspire to more adventurous, unbridled, free-range lives.
Life is cool… take the pic.
